when was it over? - Sasha Sloan feat. Sam Hunt

when was it over? is an acoustic duet between Sasha Sloan and Sam Hunt. Sloan is a well known Indie artist, but this song with Sam Hunt has been gaining popularity in the country music world since being added to both Apple Music and Spotify country playlists.

The song is about a couple that might physically still be in a relationship, but looking deeper they realize they've been emotionally over for a long time. The song is full of questions for each other, asking which moment in their time together did they know the relationship was starting to fall apart.

The chorus asks: “When was it over for you? When was it over? When was the moment you knew that you were gonna walk out eventually? It's still not over for me”

It sounds like a realization that they might have been settling in their stale relationship, and the happiness has been gone for a while. However, they both claim it still isn’t over. Is that because they truly still love each other and want to get back to the way they used to be, or is it because they’re afraid to really end their relationship and be alone? I don’t know the answer to that, but the heartbreak in this song is felt deeply either way.

Sasha Sloan’s vulnerable, gentle voice has you listening to every word of this song. Then add the contrast of Sam Hunt’s deep, unmistakable voice in the second verse, and you are forced to stop in your tracks if you haven’t already. The two voices together are a combination we never knew we needed, and now I can’t stop listening. It’s the perfect song to listen to quietly around the house, or as loud as possible driving around; not many songs fit both bills.

If you haven’t heard this song yet, do yourself a favor and listen below. Let me know what you think!
