Number 10 - Buy Me A Boat by Chris Janson
Chris Janson’s song Buy Me A Boat kicks off my summer country songs list because when I think of summer, I think of heat. I’ve never been hotter than when I worked for my cousin Andrews moving company. At the time he only had one truck and it didn’t have AC. It was the summer of 2015 when this song first came out, my first summer after high school. We would ride around 7 days a week in that truck sweating our tails off. This song would come on and we’d sing it to the top of our lungs dreaming about the day we didn’t have to haul crap in the summer heat to make a dollar.
Number 9 - Summertime by Kenny Chesney
This one came out in 2005 when I was only 8 years old. However, I remember hearing it for the first time because my mom got my dad this album for his birthday. My dad played it in the garage while he worked on fixing the garage door. I remember hearing this song and thinking, “Wow, this is a really catchy song.” Little did I know I’d still be listening to it 16 years later!
Number 8 - Summertime Blues by Alan Jackson
I love this song, partly because it's sung by Alan Jackson and partly because it is true. Summertime blues are a very real thing! When I was still in high school and college I worked some grueling jobs over summer break. You heard earlier in the blog that I worked for my cousin's moving company, before that I worked for a lot of neighbors and my father mowing grass. The summer after the moving company I worked for an awesome Steel construction company named Helm Building (this was a great company but the 6 days a week, 10 hours a day putting on metal roofs was horrible). The summer after that I was a beach lifeguard, that job was pretty sweet - no summertime blues there. Then my last summer between junior and senior year of college I worked for a local developer. He’s an awesome guy but the work I was doing was rough!
Number 7 - Sand In My Boots by Morgan Wallen
This song has absolutely no meaning to me other than the fact I love it. I’d encourage everyone to listen to his acoustic version of this song… his voice is just incredible.
Number 6 - Water by Brad Paisley
This song just preaches the truth. When you are dying of heat in the summer do what Brad and I do, “Drive until the map turns blue” All my life I’ve been beating the heat hanging at the lake, tubing at the river, or jumping waves in the ocean!
Number 5 - When the Sun Goes Down by Kenny Chesney
This is, without a doubt, one of the most popular beach songs of all time. Kenny does a great job capturing what life on a beach vacation is for most. Personally, I like to enjoy the day and then go to bed extremely early, but I still like the song! The first time I remember hearing this song was at Myrtle beach with my family! We were staying at a family friend's beach house that had a stereo system in the kitchen and living room. My dad put this song on and we all loved it. My sister and I requested the song the entire rest of the trip.
Number 4 - Redneck Yacht Club by Craig Morgan
I just love this song. A ton of people claim this thing is “overplayed” on country radio. I couldn’t disagree more. This song is made to be played so blast it all summer long. If you have a “party cove” like the one mentioned in this song I’d like to join.
Number 3 - Feelin’ It by Scotty McCreery
I'd say this is the most “sing-a-long” song Scotty has ever put out. This song was put out the summer before my senior year of high school. That summer my buddies and I got really into floating down the Roanoke River after football practice. When we would drive from the take out of the river back to the put in this song would get cranked. I have fond memories of singing this at the top of my lungs!
Number 2 - Beachin by Jake Owen
If you’re sitting low in your beach chair just hanging out with friends and you don’t have this song on the playlist then there is something seriously wrong with you. Every word of this song captures the laid back atmosphere of chilling on the beach. This song will be listened to on beaches for many years to come.
Number 1 - One Margarita by Luke Bryan
This song was released to the radio on April 13, 2020. Just in time for everyone to memorize the words before summer came. I’ll be the first to admit that when I first heard it I didn’t like it, I have no idea why because now I absolutely love the song. When we were at Ocean Lakes for vacation in July of 2020 every golf cart, camp site, beach bar, and beach site was blasting this song. At Ocean Lakes there's a golf cart parade every evening. One of the campsites next to the parade has karaoke set up, everytime we drove by that spot people were singing this song together!
Thanks for reading! Did I leave any good summer songs out? Let me know!
